The power Chain

The 158 hp produced by the sturdy Benz 15 litre engine was transmitted to the race cars rear axle via a four speed gearbox and chain drive system, the chain sprockets were fitted with internal drum brakes, although their effectiveness is doubtful once one considers that the car, with the appropriate sprocket ratios, was capable of achieving up to 114 mph.
